Mimi Bornstein
Mimi Bornstein is a choral director, pianist, worship leader, singer, and composer whose work centers on the healing and transformative power of making music in community.
She works across a wide range of settings, with choral arrangements performed nationally and internationally. Under her direction, choruses have collaborated with artists including the Grammy Award–winning Paul Winter Consort, Paul Sullivan, Theresa Thomason, and Jonathan Edwards.
Mimi is the Founder and former Artistic Director of Midcoast Community Chorus, a nonprofit arts organization built around a 140-voice, non-auditioned, multigenerational ensemble. Since its founding in 2008, the chorus’s annual benefit concerts have raised over $100,000 for Maine nonprofits. She also co-founded Voices United Community Chorus with Charles Brown, creating a non-auditioned, interracial, multi-faith ensemble dedicated to building bridges through music.
An active member of Chorus America, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries, Mimi has served on the AAUMM Board of Directors and as Director of Conferences.
Mimi is also the founder and director of Unlocking Harmony, where she works with incarcerated individuals to share their stories through documentary songwriting. Across all of her work, she is dedicated to helping people find, claim, and celebrate their voices—together.
