Caroline Rex-Waller is an arts leader, educator, and writer dedicated to building connection through storytelling. After discovering DocSong in 2014, she partnered with teaching artists to pioneer the organization’s first group documentary songwriting workshop—an innovation that expanded DocSong’s reach and impact. Caroline later collaborated with founder Malcolm Brooks to develop the comprehensive curriculum now used in DocSong’s flagship Teaching Artist training program. Caroline holds an M.A. in Teaching for Social Justice from Marlboro College (2015) and an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Middlebury’s Bread Loaf School of English (2020). Throughout her career in nonprofit leadership and education, she has championed arts-based approaches that create spaces for empathy and understanding. Caroline lives in Wenatchee, WA with her partner, John, and their two children, Charlie and Mabel. When she’s not talking about the magic of documentary songwriting, you might find her singing with her local community chorus, trail running, or reading dystopian fiction after the kids are in bed.
