She/her

Hazel Delehey is a documentary songwriter, studio vocalist, and Program Director at DocSong. Her work centers on voice, story, and connection, with a focus on creating spaces where people feel supported to share their lived experiences through music.

Hazel pioneered one of the first documentary songs created for a documentary film through her collaboration with the High Mountain Institute in Colorado, and was the first artist to lend her voice in representation of women in the #Songs of MeToo project.

Her creative practice is rooted in deep listening and collaboration. She is especially drawn to working with people who look to the natural world as a source of meaning, resilience, and guidance through challenge. Her songwriting often explores the intersections of place, identity, and healing.

Through her work with Unlocking Harmony and Documentary Songwriters, Hazel has designed and facilitated storytelling and songwriting programs in both community and carceral settings. As Program Director at DocSong, she leads the development and implementation of programs that support teaching artists and community participants, ensuring that the organization’s work remains responsive, inclusive, and grounded in care.

Hazel holds a B.A. in English with a minor in Educational Studies from Bates College, where she completed a year-long creative thesis and worked as a Peer Writing & Speaking Assistant. Her background in education continues to shape her collaborative, participant-centered approach to both teaching and art-making.

Based in Portland, Maine, Hazel continues to grow her work as both a vocalist, teacher, and songwriter, using music as a way to honor stories and build connection.
