Songs of MeToo is a documentary songwriting project led by teaching artist Nora Willauer that turns women’s stories into original songs.
The project grew out of conversations about the #MeToo movement and what often goes unheard in public storytelling—especially the parts of experiences that don’t get shared, or can’t be shared in full.
In one-on-one sessions, participants work directly with Nora to shape spoken stories into lyrics, melody, and finished songs. The process is collaborative and paced by each participant. Some choose to keep their song private; others share it through recordings or performance.
The project includes stories connected to sexual misconduct, abuse, eating disorders, body image, workplace dynamics, and other forms of harm and resilience. Each song is built from a specific story and a specific voice, not generalized themes.
Songs of MeToo uses songwriting as a way to hold difficult material with care, and to create something concrete and lasting from experiences that are often difficult to name or hold in conversation alone.
