Survivor Stories

Survivor Stories Project is a documentary songwriting collaboration with Finding Our Voices that works with survivors of domestic violence to create original songs from their stories.

Through one-on-one and small group songwriting sessions, teaching artists work directly with participants to shape spoken stories into lyrics, melody, and finished songs. Each participant chooses how their song is shared—some remain private, while others are recorded or shared publicly through performance.

The project creates space for survivors to tell their stories in their own words and on their own terms. The songwriting process offers a structured way to reflect on experience and translate it into something concrete and expressive.

The songs created through Survivor Stories are also shared with wider audiences through events and recordings. These presentations help listeners engage with survivor perspectives in a direct, human way, and open space for deeper public understanding of domestic violence and its impact.

The project aims to honor survivors’ voices, challenge misconceptions about domestic abuse, and support broader awareness through storytelling and music.
