I’m Okay with the Scars

I’m Okay with the Scars

This song is based on the life story of Danielle Coppedge who, after her incarceration, worked with documentary songwriters to share her life experience.

Her message to the world is that hardships can leave scars, but they also make you stronger.

This is the second song in the 12 song series “Unlocking Harmony,” based on the lived experiences of people who have been incarcerated and on their growth since their conviction.

Song Lyrics

I am becoming a better me
So I can be a better mom
My daughter is my strength
My daughter is my strength, oh, oh….

I’m okay with the scars, okay
Okay with scars, still okay
I’m okay with the scars, okay
Okay with scars, still okay

My husband was my sweetheart
Addiction tore us apart
Because of my scars I have victory
Because of my scars I’ve won, oh, oh…

I’m okay with the scars, okay…

Living apart from my kids
Is a scar now
But I know
Life can throw
Things at me, things at me

I am becoming a better me
So I can be a better mom
My daughter is my strength
My daughter is my strength, oh, oh….

I’m okay with the scars, okay…
